May 2020

Can we help?
It’s Mental Health Awareness Week and the theme is “Kindness”. We have been thinking about what we could do. Since lockdown started, we have donated soap and hand salve to some of our local hospitals and care homes but wanted to do something different to help. We often talk about how transformative a stay in one of our off-grid holiday sites can be and thought this would be an ideal giveaway to someone in need.

Nominate someone this week
We are giving away 3 free weekend breaks in our off-grid Lake District holiday sites. As the theme of this week is Kindness, we’d like you to think about someone you know who would really benefit from a restorative holiday with family and friends. Maybe a frontline worker who is holding it together and working long hours but could really do with a break. It might be a family stuck in a flat and in need of a nature-fix. If you know someone is struggling, reach out to them, but you can also nominate them for a chance to win a holiday with us.

How to apply…

Just send us an email with the person’s name and email address and a bit about why they would benefit from an off-grid holiday in the Lake District.

Email your nomination to hello@dodgsonwood.co.uk

Entries close midnight on Sunday 24th May.

We will pick three winners at random.
They will have the choice of booking:
Wrostler’s Barn (sleeps max. 4),
Parkamoor Cottage (sleeps max. 6 people) or
Dodgson Wood Campsite (for a group of up to 25 people).

The winners can book any available weekend dates (bookings are Friday to Monday) that suit them, once we have Government guidance on when we can open to visitors again.

Email your nomination to hello@dodgsonwood.co.uk

Accommodation
Quite rightly, all our accommodation is still empty, though we have been making some improvements in the barn and cottage. If you would like to book for the summer or later in the year, please do and if you have to cancel because of Coronavirus, you won’t loose any payments made. You can book here.

Soap

Soap sales have been fantastic these last couple of month. Thank you to all who have supported our business. Every order is valued and I am grateful to each and every one of our customers. There would be no business without you!
We have a new summer hand salve, Gathering the Fell  available now as well as a special offer on two gorgeous new soaps; The Happy Gardner and The Greenodd Fig Tree.
I hope you like them!

Wool
Wool salves have been great too as people have been looking for a project to do while sheltering. We’re offering a 20% discount during lockdown on all of our knitting wool. Just use the coupon code LOVEWOOL20 at the checkout.

New Additions to the farm

We have some wonderful Crollwitzer turkey poults we hatched out in our incubator. These are rare breed turkeys and because they are more of an ornamental bird than table bird, they actually make great garden or farmyard pets! We will be selling them in a few weeks time once the are fully feathered and off the heat lamp. If you like a pair or a trio, get in touch here.

Lambing and calving

We had a busy but really great time with lambing and calving. Because lots of obligations had been cancelled, this meant we could focus on our farm work. The beautiful sunny weather helped but the dry spell lasted a little to long so the grass has been suffering. Fortunately rain has come so we should see the grass finally begin to grow.

Here’s a photo of John with lamb almost perfectly matching his beard!
